The worlds most celebrated traditional Irish band celebrates their 60th Anniversary with the first-ever vinyl release of their iconic album Voice of Ages (2012).
Formed in Dublin in 1962, The Chieftains are a 6 x Grammy Award Winning Traditional Irish Folk band. Being awarded the title of ‘Ireland’s Musical Ambassadors’ in 1989, The Chieftains have been credited for bringing Irish music to a wider audience, popularising it around the world. Creating a sound which is built around uilleann pipes, their sound has become synonymous with traditional Irish Music.
This imaginative collection of songs sees a collaboration between The Chieftains and a dazzling array of likeminded musical visionaries from the worlds of indie-rock (Bon Iver, The Decemberists, The Low Anthem, Paolo Nutini), Country and Americana (The Civil Wars, Pistol Annies, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Punch Brothers), Irish Folk (Imelda May, Lisa Hannigan). Voice of Ages is a bold affirmation that their inspiring influence, musical brilliance and enduring legacy are more relevant than ever.
