The Australian indie rock band Spacey Jane (lead vocalist and guitarist Caleb Harper, lead guitarist Ashton Hardman-Le Cornu, drummer Kieran Lama and bassist Peppa Lane) are back with a fantastic brand-new album, produced by Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, MUNA, Foals, The Killers). If That Makes Sense is slated to be released in May with a late January launch; with various underplays across Australia followed by a post-release tour in US, UK, Europe and headlining tour back home in Australia and New Zealand.

"Have you ever poured your heart in sadness or in rage, have you bared your soul with everything that you feel is true only to invalidate it by asking someone else if it makes sense? Like only their ability to understand and rationalize how you feel will allow you to do the same. It’s something like that. Or maybe you know exactly what you feel and what you want to say but you’re unable to clearly convey it. You hope that whoever’s listening can decipher what you mean, but you’re not sure that they’re really getting it. It’s a hope and a resignation.

It also speaks to an understanding I’ve come to that nothing you can put in a song, nothing you can put in words of any format, can ever wholly dissect how complex life is.

I hope people take from the album what they will, and I have no desire to prescribe what that experience should be like. For me there are moments in which I feel angry, devastated, nostalgic, hopeful and resigned.

This album isn’t trying to be anything in particular. It isn’t about that one time in my life or one person or one feeling, but it is about many of them. Sometimes it is sure of itself and other times it whispers uncertainty. People might want a headline theme, but I guess the point is that there is no point. It’s an album of flashbacks, some with apologies, some with anger, some with confusion.

It was made with a clear vision for what we wanted to achieve as a band but with little idea of how to do it. I think we needed to feel uncomfortable and unsure of ourselves to truly question what we were making and how to make it better.

It’s the personal equivalent of reconciling the till at the end of a shift.” - Caleb Harper
